Wareemba is located 12 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD. Wareemba sits on the eastern shore of Hen and Chicken Bay, on the Parramatta River. Wareemba is surrounded by the suburbs of Five Dock and Russell Lea and Abbotsford. Like the nearby suburb of Five Dock, Wareemba has a large Italian population although it is a small suburb. At the last census, the population of 1,390 included 17% Italian born.


The ferry nearby in Abbotsford goes both to Parramatta and Circular Quay. Two bus routes travel through Wareemba going to the city, one via Parramatta Road and one via Victoria Rd.
